What is the scope for entrepreneurship in India today?

As of April 2024, over 127 thousand startups have been officially recognised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade in India with one in five adults expected to start their own business in the next three years. This is largely due to a highly conducive environment for startups in India.

India’s economy comprises a vast number of businesses that are predominantly micro enterprises, with more than half of them based in rural areas. There is a significant shift from job seeking to job creation amongst the youth looking for new avenues of income generation. With rural areas quickly becoming prime regions for entrepreneurial ventures, this has also led to increased employment opportunities for rural youth. Wealth creation is no longer in the hands of a select few, leveraging emerging opportunities in the startup ecosystem is enabling more and more youth to take an interest and succeed in their entrepreneurial endeavours.

What is our approach to entrepreneurship?

What does our entrepreneurship model look like?

We have designed a 6 week training model that focuses on business fundamentals, domain-specific insights, mindset building and achievement motivation. This is an immersive experience through which participants gain exposure to market opportunities, interact with successful entrepreneurs and mentors, and create a business plan that best fits their interests and future goals.

We have two entrepreneurship development models designed according to the backgrounds and aspirations of the entrepreneurs. These models are further tailored to the specific local context and aspirations of the participants to ensure relevance and effectiveness.

General Entrepreneurship

  • These programmes cover business fundamentals and provide exposure to multiple business avenues in the local context
  • For participants with no clarity about the business they wish to pursue
  • Openness to explore various domains and select a business with maximum local scope and potential
  • Works well in concentrated geographies where participants go on to open build an ecosystem of diverse businesses

Technical Entrepreneurship

  • These programmes focus on specific business domains such as solar, electric vehicle, food processing etc and provide domain-specific business inputs
  • For participants who are sure of the business avenue they wish to pursue and may have a background in the domain as well
  • Works well for group enterprise formation where participants want to form collectives. Also works well for individual participants from different regions

What sets our entrepreneurship model apart?

We provide customised training support specific to the avenues that participants are interested in. Technical guidance is provided by industry experts and successful entrepreneurs in the fields that participants are interested in entering. Along with this, industry exposure visits are conducted to survey the current market and specific linkages are created that are relevant to the individual participant in terms of market network and financial assistance through bank linkages. Marketing, sales, and branding are important elements in our model that participants otherwise struggle with on their own. Putting together a sales model and leveraging technology have proven highly beneficial in the ultimate success of their ventures.

Our efforts in creating a high quality learning experience for participants and investing time in mindset building has ensured that every participant is able to make a start on a new entrepreneurial journey.

Which sectors see the maximum scope for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Establishing new enterprises is all about identifying local gaps and coming up with unique solutions in terms of products and services that are not being addressed effectively. Thus, these opportunities are highly variable and depend on the local context. In terms of overall demand in the country, some emerging sectors are mentioned below.
